Don Haldeman - Inducted 2011

Don graduated from Souderton High School in the Class of 1965.


Don played baseball and received 3 Varsity letters. The positions he
played were: catcher, first base and outfield.


In 1969 Don was inducted in the United States Army and assigned to Fort
Benning, Ga. While there he joined the United States Marksmanship Unit.
He was an instructor/shooter for the United States Army Marksmanship
Training Unit.


In the 1972 Olympics in Munich Germany, Don finished 17th with a score
of 187 out of 200. In 1975 Don was the U.S. International Clay Pigeon
Champion, scoring 297 out of 300. The second day he scored a perfect
100 out of 100. That year his team also won the World Games in Munich,
setting a record of 388 out of 400.


The team also won the Pan Am Games in Mexico, bettering the world mark with a 391. Don led the way with
another perfect 100 and won a Silver Medal.


At the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal, he won the Gold Medal. Don completed his three day program with
a score of 190 x 200. He is One of only two Americans to win this prestigious championship.


In 2010 the Keystone Shooting Park located in Dalmatia, Pa, Northumberland County, named its new trap
facility Haldeman Field in his honor. It is an Olympic training facility for the United States Marksmanship
Team. It is the first fully automated Olympic Trap Range in the world.
