Debra Eschbach - Inductd 2013
Debra Eschbach, also known as Deb or Esch, was the head coach of the Souderton Area High School girls’ lacrosse team from 1981-2005. Her teams experienced an unprecedented level of success, compiling a 331-107-7 overall record and a 276-33-6 record in league play. During her tenure at the helm, 17 of her players earned All-American status.
Deb elevated Souderton’s lacrosse program to new heights, capturing 16 league championships, which included seven undefeated league seasons. Souderton won its first league title in 1983, a Bux-Mont League title they shared with two other teams. Later, Souderton was the first team to win a championship in the Suburban One Continental Conference.
Her squads advanced to the District One Tournament 20 times and became a perennial district power. Under Deb, the Indians advanced to the district quarterfinals six times – 1991, 1993, 1997, 2000, 2003, and 2004. Souderton advanced to the district semifinals in 1988, 1994, 2001, and 2002. In 1990, Souderton took a perfect 17-0 record into the district title game, a streak that included a win over perennial state power Radnor in the semifinals. Souderton finished that season as the district runner-up, falling to West Chester East 4-2 in the final.
Deb also coached gymnastics for Souderton from 1970-1990, and in 1986. Souderton produced a pair of second place finishes at the state championship level.
Deb currently resides in Lansdale.
